Greeko's is the best representation of the old shady South Bay we grew up in. Greeko's in Hermosa Beach was a shop that spanned many countercultures in the South Bay, from the hippies in the 60's and 70's to the punks, skaters, stoners and outcasts of the 80's, 90's and early 00's. Although their sign focused on selling sandals, we all know what was sold in the back room. In the 90's they also sold punk shirts, posters, and other cool underground counterculture items. This was back when Hermosa had Alternative Groove, Scooter's, Either/Or, The Bijou and Re:style. Greeko's is believed to be the oldest head shop in the US, starting in 1966. The shop moved out of Hermosa around 2012 or so to Torrance and closed down in 2021.
